Panels are sold as self-cleaning, and on a steep pitch in heavy rain there is something in that. What rain will not shift is the band of grime that builds along the bottom edge of every panel, where the water runs off and the dirt stays. In Essex that is field dust, pollen and bird mess.

How a panel clean runs
STEP 01
Free survey and fixed quote
We look at how many panels there are, how high they sit and what access they need. Priced in writing, no call-out charge.
STEP 02
Safe access set up
Pole from the ground where we can reach, tower or scaffold where we cannot. Nobody walks on the roof or the panels.
STEP 03
Washed and rinsed
Soft brush and purified water, worked down each panel, then rinsed and left to dry clear.
STEP 04
Checked and cleaned down
Gutters cleared, the ground washed off, and photographs of the finished array.
What does solar panel cleaning cost?
It comes down to how many panels there are, how high up they sit and what access they need. An array we can reach on a pole from the ground is a short job. A two-storey roof that needs a tower costs more, and it is worth doing the gutters at the same time while the access is up.

Frequently asked questions
How often do they need doing?
Once a year suits most houses in Essex. Nearer a farm, a busy road or overhanging trees, or with birds sitting above the array, twice is better.
How much will it improve my generation?
Usually it helps, and most on panels that have never been cleaned. How much depends entirely on how dirty they were, so we are not going to promise you a percentage.
Do you use chemicals?
No. Purified water lifts the dirt and dries without leaving a mark. Detergents leave a film behind and dirt sticks to it faster than before.
Can I not just jet wash them myself?
Please do not. Pressure forces water past the seals around the cells, and it can take the coating off the glass. Neither is covered by a panel warranty.
Do you walk on the roof?
No. Pole from the ground wherever we can reach, tower or scaffold where we cannot. Standing on a panel can crack the cells without leaving a mark you can see.
Can you stop birds nesting under them?
